Remember wishing that you could fly when you were a child? Just take off and fly among the clouds - leaning into the wind and having it lift you up for a wonderful ride - wouldn't that be fun! Flying has held man's attention for thousands of years, and still captures the attention of kids of all ages. This four-week unit study takes your student along a learning path that covers the history and science of flight, while introducing them to famous flyers, inventors and other brave aviation adventurers. Come join us on this new adventure, and see what in the world has been happening in flight since before Leonardo da Vinci first began sketching his ideas for a flying machine! Did you know that Marco Polo witnessed kites carrying humans in China? And don't tell the kids, but in 1010, a Benedictine monk was the first man to fly for some distance with the aid of wings - before falling and breaking his legs. In addition to the history, we will delve into the science of flight - what makes an airplane fly, how is it controlled, and so much more. The Flight Unit study contains 20 days of lesson plans for two levels, Lower Level (elementary) and Upper Level (Jr/Sr High). The study also includes many online resources, book suggestions, project ideas, and much more. A fascinating learning adventure for everyone!
