Election time is rapidly approaching here in the United States, and we are introducing the Elections 2022 Unit Study Adventure. Every two years, we have national elections, and they are often accompanied by state and local elections. In 2022, the congressional elections are in the spotlight, while there are also many state and local elections and issues on ballots across the country.

With this unit study, your student will learn about:
- History of elections
- Basic structure of representative government
- Voting and the election process
- Importance of all levels of U.S. elections
- Presidents, their families and their opponents
Learning Objectives:
Week 1
- Become familiar with the definition and purpose of government.
- Develop an understanding of the basics of American government and elections.
- Learn the history of political parties in America.
- Study the structure of American government.
- Investigate different types of government.
Week 2
- Study the federal government—its purpose and structure.
- Learn about American presidents and their elections and campaigns.
- Become familiar with the basic structure of national American elections.
- Learn about the campaign process.
- Develop an understanding of what it means to be an American citizen.
- Develop an understanding of American political parties.
- Investigate the American Constitution.
Week 3
- Investigate the content of the American Constitution.
- Study the state government—its purpose and structure.
- Learn about more American presidents and their elections and campaigns.
- Become familiar with the American voting process.
- Learn about American political parties.
- Learn about the rights of American citizens.
Week 4
- Investigate the content of the American Constitution.
- Study the local government—its purpose and structure.
- Learn about more American presidents and their elections and campaigns.
- Become familiar with the American Electoral College.
- Learn more about American political parties.
- Learn about the responsibilities of American citizens.
The Elections 2022 study is part of the Unit Study Adventure series, designed to be a four-week study for grades K-12. The daily lesson plans have been written in two levels in this study:
Lower Level (elementary grades)
Upper Level (junior/senior high grades)
The study requires no other books–it includes Internet links throughout the lessons for the use of the students when other resources are helpful. Includes Elections Lapbook.
