Come join us for a fascinating look at the world of cars and auto racing. This four-week study covers topics that include:
- Several types of racing: stock car, Formula One, drag racing, and others.
- Exploration of the development of cars and engines.
- Learning about the people who contributed to the development of car production.
- Investigating famous speedways around the world.
Auto racing is an exciting and interesting topic that also opens the door to learning about forces, combustion, safety, and so much more. We will learn about racing legends like Dale Earnhardt, Sr., along with modern drivers competing for their turn in Victory Lane. We will take a look at today’s cars: how they work and some of their features. Along with all of this, we will cover car design, safety features, and the driving strategies used by today’s drivers.
Learning Objectives:
Week 1
- Learn about the early history of automobiles in America
- Investigate the some of the early automobile builders and inventors
- Become familiar with the internal combustion engine
- Study some of the history of early automobile racing in America
- Investigate some of the legends of American auto racing
Week 2
- Learn about some of the types of professional racing
- Investigate some of the racetracks used in professional automobile racing
- Become familiar with some of the systems in automobiles
- Study the history of automobile racing in America
- Investigate some of the legends of American auto racing
Week 3
- Study the basic strategies of auto racing
- Investigate some of the racetracks used in professional automobile racing
- Become familiar with the basic components of racecars
- Investigate some of the legends of American auto racing
Week 4
- Investigate some of the racetracks used in professional automobile racing
- Learn about the ways that are available to pursue an interest in driving as a professional in auto racing
- Study the various competitions and scoring systems in stock car racing
- Investigate some of the drivers in racing today.
The Auto Racing study is part of the Unit Study Adventure series, designed to be a four-week study for grades K-12. The daily lesson plans have been written in two levels in this study:
